In general, two IP addresses will be provided to each member at IXSA primary site and two IP addresses to each member at IXSA secondary site.
Customers must have and assigned AS.
For each site, two network connections will be established to each member on IXSA switch. The network connections available on switches are 10/100/1000BaseT Ethernet. These connections can be made from Member’s home office or co-location routers to the IXSA switch.
Subject to switch port availability, more than two network connections from member may be considered provided that the traffic (B) aggregated from a member has greater than 80% of its total (n-1) capacity. For example, B must be >800Mbps if number of GE connected = 2.
For each site, at most 8xGE connections to each member will be provided on IXSA switch. Subject to switch port availability, member's application of 10G connection as upgrade may be considered. Once the application is approved and the 10G port is connected, some or all of the existing GE connections would need to be disconnected.
IXSA can provide space to accommodate members' co-location routers for each connection if necessary. However, IXSA will not provide space for switch or transmission equipment co-location.
IXSA will not provide any physical layer equipment or transit equipment such as switch ports or ATM ports for circuits.
IXSA will only accept single-mode or multi-mode LC duplex connection to its fiber panels.
Sub-Policies
If an organization is interested to join, it needs to fulfill the above requirements and acknowledges the acceptance of the following IXSA policies and guidelines:
- Peering:
IXSA is a layer-two Internet Exchange over Ethernet. All participants connecting to IXSA are exchanging data via an Ethernet that is a layer-two technology. All routers on the Ethernet are exchanging routing tables (or peering) with the route server set up by IXSA using BGP4.
IXSA is a settlement-free interconnection point. No settlement needs to be paid by the peering participants for the incoming and outgoing traffic.
The main purpose of the IXSA is for routing of intra-Saudi traffic but it is acceptable if participants allow others to exchange traffic with their peer or downstream network(s) at other countries free of charge.
All participants should not filter traffic or routing table entries to or from any other participants unless it is justifiable.
IXSA has set up route servers for peering; participants must only peer with these servers. Participants can also peer with other participants directly as long as the arrangement does not violate any of the policies and guidelines stated here.
All participants of IXSA are considered equal. All IXSA participants must peer with one another via the route servers.
Each participant must be an Autonomous System (AS) by itself with a globally unique AS number assigned by InterNIC, RIPE-NCC, APNIC or their sub-registries.
The source addresses of the data traversing the IXSA must be officially assigned by InterNIC, RIPE-NCC, APNIC or their sub-registries.
- Connectivity:
Each participant MUST have its own global Internet connectivity through other Internet access provider(s) independent of IXSA facilities.
The IXSA MUST NOT be used as the primary connection to the global Internet. The key point is that if the link to IXSA itself is down, connectivity should still be maintained
IXSA has the primary site at Riyadh; participants with a single connection (data link) to IXSA should connect to the primary site.
Should IXSA has secondary site(s), participants might add additional data link(s) to the secondary site(s) for redundancy or load balance purposes.
- Co-location:
IXSA will provide rack space, electricity, air-conditioning and Ethernet connections to the participants for their routers located at IXSA. For details of the connection types and rack space for router co-location, please refer to the IXSA Connectivity policy.
IXSA will also provide 24x7 operational support.
The routers located at IXSA will be managed by the corresponding participants.
- Liability:
Each participant connecting to IXSA should take all necessary precautions to assure that abuse of network resources, both that of IXSA and its peers does not occur.
IXSA will not be responsible for any loss and damages to the participants caused by the operations of IXSA or its participants.
IXSA will not be responsible for any illegal activities performed by any of its participants.
- Disconnection:
IXSA reserves the right to disconnect any participants if they violate any of the policies and guidelines stated above.
